How does a photo know its camera?
Every phone and digital camera writes its make and model into the photos it takes, usually along with the lens and the settings of the shot. Those details stay inside the file when you copy it or send it as a file.
This tool reads them in plain words. It's a quick way to see what gear made a photo you like, or which phone a picture really came from.

Questions and answers
How can I tell what camera took a photo?
Drop the photo into the box above. If the camera saved its details, you'll see the make and model, the lens and the settings it used, in a few seconds.
Can I find out which phone took a picture?
Yes, if it's the original file. iPhones and Android phones record their model, and often which of their lenses was used, such as the main or ultra-wide camera.
Why does it say no camera was found?
The details were removed or never written. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and most messaging apps strip them, screenshots never have them, and AI images have none. The original file from the camera or phone keeps them.
What do aperture, shutter speed and ISO mean?
They are the three settings behind every exposure. Aperture (ƒ/2.8) is how wide the lens opened, shutter speed (1/250 s) is how long it stayed open, and ISO is how sensitive the sensor was set. Together they decide how bright and sharp the photo is.
Can the camera details be faked?
Yes. They can be edited with the right software, so treat them as a strong hint about where a photo came from, not as proof.
What happens to my file?
