What "Total editing time" really measures
Word keeps a running total of how long a document has been open for editing, and counts each save as a revision. Teachers sometimes look at it alongside an essay, and it shows in File, Info, Properties.
It's easy to misread: it counts open time, not typing; "Save As" and copying text into a new file start it over; and Google Docs exports have none. Treat it as context, never as proof.

Questions and answers
How do I see the total editing time of a Word document?
Drop the file into the box above, or in Word go to File, Info, Properties. Both show the same number.
Can a teacher tell if I copied my essay?
Not from this alone. A short editing time can just mean you wrote in another file or app and pasted the text in. It's a prompt to ask, not evidence.
Why is the editing time 0 or 1 minute?
The file was probably created by "Save As", pasted together from another document, or exported from Google Docs or another app. All of these reset or skip the timer.
Does the editing time keep counting when Word is minimised?
Yes. It counts while the document is open with editing possible, even if you aren't typing.
What is the revision number?
A counter that goes up each time the document is saved. It's not the number of tracked changes.
What happens to my file?
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
