Digital signatures in PDFs
A digital signature is a cryptographic seal added to a PDF with a certificate. It records who signed, when and often why, and it breaks if the document is changed afterwards. It's different from a picture of a handwritten signature.
This tool reads the signature details saved in the file, so you can see at a glance whether a contract, invoice or form has been signed and by whom.

Questions and answers
How do I know if a PDF is digitally signed?
Drop it into the box above. If it carries a digital signature, you'll see the signer's name, the date and the reason.
Is the signature valid?
This tool shows what the signature says: who, when and why. It doesn't yet check the certificate or whether the file changed since signing.
Why does my signed PDF show no signature?
If the signature was drawn, typed or pasted as an image, it isn't a digital signature. Some e-signature services also flatten the document when they finish.
What is the difference between an electronic and a digital signature?
An electronic signature is any sign of agreement, such as a typed name. A digital signature uses a certificate to lock the document cryptographically.
Is the signer's name shared when I share the result?
No. The share link's title and preview never show it; only someone who opens the link sees the details.
What happens to my file?
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
