Questions and answers
How do I see the hidden information in a Word document?
Drop the file into the box above. We list every personal detail its properties hold, with what each one says.
How do I remove it?
Use our Metadata Remover, or in Word go to File, Info, Check for Issues, Inspect Document and remove Document Properties and Personal Information.
Why does it show a company I don't work for?
Office fills in the company from the computer's or the template's settings. A document started from someone else's template can carry their company.
What is a template path, and why does it matter?
The location of the template the document was based on. On work computers it is often a network path that reveals server names, folders or user names.
Does saving as PDF remove these details?
Partly. Word copies the author and title into the PDF unless you untick "Document properties" in the PDF options. Our PDF Author Finder shows what a PDF keeps.
What happens to my file?
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
