The route inside every GoPro video
GoPro cameras from the HERO5 on record telemetry alongside the video: GPS position many times a second, plus altitude and speed. It is stored in the MP4 file itself, in a track called GPMF.
We read every position, draw the route on a map and give it to you as a GPX file for Strava, Garmin Connect or Google Earth, or as CSV for a spreadsheet. Positions recorded before the GPS found satellites are left out.

Questions and answers
How do I get the GPS data from a GoPro video?
Drop the original MP4 into the box above. The route appears on the map in a few seconds, with buttons to download it as GPX or CSV.
Why does my GoPro video have no GPS?
GPS must be turned on in the camera's settings and needs a few minutes outdoors to find satellites. Videos edited in apps or exported from GoPro Quik often lose the telemetry.
Can I upload the GPX to Strava?
Yes. Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot and Google Earth all import GPX files. Times are included, so speed and duration come through.
Which GoPro cameras record GPS?
The HERO5 Black and later HERO models, the MAX and the Fusion. HERO12 Black is the exception: it has no GPS.
Is the whole route kept?
Up to 2,000 points, spread evenly along the route, which is plenty for any map. The distance is measured on every recorded position.
What happens to my file?
