How a screenshot gives itself away
Screenshots are made by the device, not a camera, and they carry its fingerprints. iPhones and Macs write "Screenshot" into the file, Android and Windows give them telling file names, and screenshot apps sign their name. Real photos, in turn, record a camera, a lens and an exposure.
Checking helps with fact-checking images that claim to be photos, with sorting a photo library, and with spotting a "photo" that is really a picture of a screen.

Questions and answers
How can I tell if an image is a screenshot?
Drop it into the box above. We look for screenshot labels, screenshot apps, file names and screen sizes, and for camera details that only real photos have.
Do iPhone screenshots have metadata?
Yes. iPhones save screenshots as PNG files with the comment "Screenshot" and the screen's size, but no camera, lens or location.
Can a screenshot be disguised as a photo?
Yes, by converting or re-saving it, which removes the marks. That's why "can't tell" is a possible answer: no marks is not proof either way.
Why does it say "probably"?
The image has no clear label, but it has no camera details and is exactly the size of a common screen, which is typical of screenshots.
Does it work for photos of a screen?
A photo of a screen, taken with a camera, counts as a camera photo here, because it was taken with a camera.
What happens to my file?
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
