Where Midjourney keeps the prompt
When you download an image from midjourney.com, Midjourney writes the full prompt into the file's description, along with the parameters you used, such as --ar, --v, --stylize and --chaos, and a job ID that points back to the original generation.
Reading it tells you how an image you like was made, so you can learn from it or build on it. It works on the original file; a re-saved or screenshotted copy usually loses the prompt.

Questions and answers
How do I find the prompt of a Midjourney image?
Drop the original image into the box above. If Midjourney saved its prompt, you'll see it with the parameters and job ID in a few seconds.
Why is no prompt found?
Only images downloaded from Midjourney's website keep it reliably. Discord downloads, upscales from other tools, screenshots and social media copies usually don't.
What is the job ID?
The ID of the generation on Midjourney. The person who made the image can use it to find the original job and its variations.
Does it show the image prompt or style references?
It shows what Midjourney saved in the text, including reference image links and --sref or --cref codes when they were part of the prompt.
Does it work for other AI images?
Yes. If the image was made with another generator, such as Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI, we show its prompt too and say which tool made it.
What happens to my file?
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
