What NovelAI saves in its images
Every image NovelAI generates is a PNG with the full recipe inside: the prompt, the undesired content (negative prompt), the model, the seed, the number of steps, the sampler and the guidance scale.
With that you can recreate an image, learn which tags produced a style, or check how one of your own images was made. NovelAI itself can read it back when you drop the image into its editor; this works anywhere.

How do I see the prompt of a NovelAI image?
Drop the original PNG into the box above. You'll see the prompt, the undesired content and the generation settings.
Why is no prompt found?
The settings live in the PNG file. Converting to JPEG, cropping in some apps, screenshots and social networks remove them.
Can I recreate the image with these settings?
With the same model, prompt, seed and settings you should get the same or a very similar image on NovelAI.
Is the prompt hidden for sensitive images?
Prompts with sensitive words are blurred until you choose to show them.
Does it work for other AI images?
Yes. If another generator made the image, such as Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI, we show its prompt and say which tool made it.
What happens to my file?
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
