From coordinates to a street address

Phones and GPS cameras save the exact spot where a photo was taken as latitude and longitude. Those numbers are precise but hard to read, so we look them up on the map and turn them into the nearest street address.

It's useful for sorting holiday photos, remembering where a picture was taken, or checking what a photo reveals before you post it. If there's no address nearby, you still get a Plus Code you can paste into Google Maps.

Questions and answers

How do I find the address where a photo was taken?

Drop the photo into the box above. If it has a GPS location, you'll see the street address, city and country, with a button to copy the address.

Why does it say the photo has no location?

The camera's location setting may have been off, or the photo was sent through WhatsApp, Facebook or another app that removes it. Screenshots never have one.

How accurate is the address?

The GPS position is usually accurate to a few metres, but the address is the nearest one on the map, so it can be next door or across the street. In open country you'll get the nearest road or place name.

What is a Plus Code?

A short code, such as 9C3XGV3C+CW, that stands for a small square on the map. Paste it into Google Maps and it takes you to the spot, even where there are no street addresses.

Can someone find my home address from my photos?

Yes, if you share the original file with its location. Check with our Photo Location Privacy Check, and use the Metadata Remover to take the location out before you share.

What happens to my file?

Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
