What makes a video 360°
A 360° video is stored as a flat, stretched picture, usually twice as wide as it is tall. A small piece of metadata tells players to wrap it into a sphere, so viewers can look around. VR180 covers the front half, often in 3D.
Without that mark, YouTube, Facebook and players show the stretched picture as an ordinary video. Editing and converting often drops it, which is the most common reason a 360° upload looks wrong.

Questions and answers
Why does my 360 video look flat on YouTube?
The file has lost its 360° metadata, usually after editing or converting. Export it again with the 360° option on, or add the metadata with Google's Spatial Media Metadata Injector.
How do I know if a video is 360°?
Drop it into the box above. We look for the spherical metadata players need, and for footage that has the shape of 360° video without the mark.
What is VR180?
A format that shows the half sphere in front of the viewer, usually in stereo 3D, for VR headsets.
Why does my Insta360 file say it comes from a 360° camera?
Insta360 and GoPro MAX save their own camera files (INSV, 360), which their apps turn into standard 360° videos. Export the video from the app to share it.
What is equirectangular?
The usual way to flatten a sphere into a rectangle, like a world map. It's the projection most 360° videos use.
