What an ISRC is
The International Standard Recording Code is a 12-character ID given to every released recording. It encodes the country, the registrant (the label or distributor), the year and a number, such as GB-UM7-10-29604.
Streaming services and collecting societies use it to track plays and pay royalties. Labels and distributors write it into the files they deliver, so the master on your drive usually holds it.

Questions and answers
How do I find the ISRC of a song?
Drop the audio file into the box above. If the ISRC is in its tags, you'll see it with a copy button.
Why does my file have no ISRC?
Not every file is tagged with one. Converted, edited or CD-ripped copies often lose it. Check your distributor's dashboard, which lists the ISRC of every release.
What do the parts of an ISRC mean?
Two letters for the country, three characters for the registrant, two digits for the year and five digits for the recording, as in GB-UM7-10-29604.
Is an ISRC the same as a UPC?
No. An ISRC identifies one recording; a UPC or EAN barcode identifies a whole release, such as an album.
Can I add an ISRC to a file?
Yes, with a tag editor such as Mp3tag or Kid3, in the ISRC field. Use the code your distributor assigned.
What happens to my file?
Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, read on our servers and deleted automatically after about 24 hours. The answer is kept on a page with its own link, so you can share it. Tool result pages are never listed in search engines.
