Where a song keeps its BPM and key
Music files have room for a tempo, in beats per minute, and a musical key. Music stores, DJ software and key-detection apps fill them in, and other apps read them back to sort and match tracks.
For DJs, the key is often shown in Camelot notation: numbers round a wheel, with A for minor and B for major. Tracks next to each other on the wheel mix smoothly. We show both forms.

How do I find the BPM of a song file?
Drop it into the box above. If the song is tagged, you'll see its BPM and key straight away.
Why does it say no BPM was found?
Nobody saved one in the file. DJ software such as Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor or Mixed In Key can analyse the song and write it in.
What is the Camelot wheel?
A chart of the 24 keys as numbers 1 to 12 with A (minor) or B (major). Mixing into the same number or a neighbour keeps the music in harmony.
Is the BPM accurate?
It's as accurate as whoever tagged it. Some tools report half or double the real tempo, such as 70 instead of 140.
Which formats are supported?
MP3 (ID3 tags), M4A and AAC, FLAC and OGG (Vorbis comments), and WAV and AIFF when tagged.
What happens to my file?
