How a photo remembers its lens
Modern lenses talk to the camera, which writes the lens name into every photo, along with the focal length and aperture used for that shot. That's how you can tell an image was taken at 35 mm and ƒ/1.8, and with which lens.
It's useful for learning from photos you like, choosing your next lens, or checking which of your lenses you actually reach for.

Questions and answers
How do I find out what lens was used for a photo?
Drop the photo into the box above. If the camera saved it, you'll see the lens name, the focal length and aperture used, and the lens's range.
Why does it say no lens was found?
Some photos don't record one: older cameras, compacts, and manual or adapted lenses without electronic contacts. Edited and shared photos often lose it too.
Why does my third-party lens show a different name?
Sigma, Tamron and other makers sometimes report a lens ID that matches a different lens. We show what the camera recorded, which is usually right but not always.
What does "35 mm terms" mean?
It's the focal length converted to the equivalent on a full-frame camera, so you can compare lenses across different sensor sizes and phones.
Does it work with phone photos?
Yes. Phones record which of their cameras was used, such as "iPhone 15 Pro back triple camera". Our Phone Finder explains which camera that is.
